After the record-breaking success of Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starrer Gadar 2, the sequel of the 2001 hit film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, fans wanted Sunny to reprise his role from his film Border and bring out a sequel. There have been several speculations about Border 2 and even a third instalment in the Gadar franchise. Recently, Sunny Deol addressed these rumours.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Sunny said, “It has been there ever since Gadar released, ‘Yeh part 2 kar raha hoon, voh part 2 kar raha hoon’, arre kitni part 2 kar raha hoon! Har cheez ke rumours chale jaa rahe hain (I am doing this part 2 and that part 2. Rumours are spreading about everything). I will announce it myself. People like to speculate.”
There were reports earlier that filmmaker Anurag Singh is in talks with the makers to direct Border 2. Pinkvilla quoted a source as saying, “There was a version that was created earlier by the in-house team of JP Dutta, but with Anurag on board, he is writing the subject with his approach. Ayushmann (Khurrana) had heard the earlier version and was on board, but now, he will also decide once he hears the quality of his role in the final draft.”
The report mentioned that Sunny Deol is currently involved in the negotiation process for his fee with the producers. However, Sunny’s recent interview hints otherwise.
Meanwhile, Sunny Deol will be seen in Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lahore 1947. Discussing the project, Sunny told the Hindustan Times, “Gadar 2 has been successful so this film is happening. We have been with this film for the past 15-17 years, but it wasn’t happening. Gadar has opened a lot of doors for all of us. Raj is very talented, he has got a lot of great subjects. People have seen him and me doing three films together, all different genres, and all masterpieces.”
Sunny and Rajkumar have previously collaborated on films such as Ghayal and Damini. The film is being produced by Aamir Khan.
