Sumona Chakravarty was ‘taken aback’ when Kapil Sharma did not approach her for The Great Indian Kapil Show earlier this year, an insider has revealed. The actress worked with Kapil for 10 years. She was a part of the latter’s Comedy Nights with Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show. However, when Kapil returned with The Great Indian Kapil Show earlier this year on Netflix, Sumona wasn’t announced as one of the cast members.
Now, if a report by Hindustan Times is to be believed, Sumona was shocked and angry when she wasn’t approached by Kapil for his show. An insider claimed that the actress is still very “upset” with the comedian because once Sunil Grover agreed to work with him, he approached Kiku Sharda and Krushna Abhishek but decided not to cast her.
“She had expected that the entire cast would be retained for the digital version of the show, but she did not get any call from Kapil. Also, With Sunil (Grover) joining the show back, Kapil only took Krushna (Abhishek) and Kiku (Sharda) with him,” a source cited by the news portal claimed.
“She always thought that the jokes on her dialogue delivery and style were limited to having fun on the show, but she never thought that this would go beyond that, and affect the casting process. She was very angry initially, and is still quite upset with what happened, however she chose to deal with it by maintaining silence and not talking about it,” the insider added.
Asked why Sumona has not been speaking about not being a part of TGIKS, the source claimed that it is because she did not “exit by choice”. “She is always asked about her absence from Kapil’s show, and the fact that she didn’t exit by choice, it triggers her even more and acts as rubbing salt in the wound. Though she is not keeping any grudge with Kapil, they haven’t spoken ever since,” the source argued.
Sumona is currently in Romania where she is shooting for Khatron Ke Khiladi 14. The insider further stated that the actress was never planning to participate in Rohit Shetty’s show but she accepted the offer since Kapil did not approach her for TGIKS.
Meanwhile, talking about her absence from Kapil Sharma’s show, Sumona previously told news agency PTI, “I don’t have an answer to this. The show that I was part of, which was on another channel, ended last year in July. Since then, I’ve been on my own journey, doing my own things, networking, and meeting people.”
“I know fans have missed (me on the show), I’ve seen their messages. I meet people everywhere, the moment you step out of the house, your neighbours tell you (they miss seeing you on the show). That is exactly what motivates you to do something different,” the actress added.
