Dakota Johnson Reveals Madame Web’s Script Underwent 'Drastic Changes'
In a media interaction, Dakota Johnson revealed that her upcoming film Madame Web’s script underwent 'drastic changes' after she was signed up for the movie, directed by SJ Clarkson.

Madame Web, the spinoff to the blockbuster Spider-Man franchise, is geared up for a theatrical release on February 16. Directed by SJ Clarkson, the superhero film stars Fifty Shades Of Grey fame Dakota Johnson in the lead alongside Emma Roberts, Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O’Connor in crucial roles. Dakota Johnson essays the character of Cassandra Webb, a paramedic with psychic abilities trying to protect three women from a mysterious adversary. Ahead of Madame Web’s release, Dakota Johnson in a recent interview made a revelation about the film. According to the actress, Madame Web’s script underwent “drastic changes" after she was signed up for the movie.

In an interaction with The Wrap, Dakota Johnson stated that when she agreed to be a part of Madame Web, the script was completely different. Although she admitted not remembering it now, the actress disclosed that the final draft that made it to the screens had almost zero similarity with the initial screenplay. “There were drastic changes. And I can’t even tell you what they were," claimed Johnson. Since the SJ Clarkson directorial revolved around navigating through multiple versions of the past, present, and future due to Cassandra Webb’s clairvoyance powers, it became a challenge to execute the scenes during filming.

Explaining the shooting difficulties, Dakota Johnson added, “It added so many different camera set-ups, like triple the amount of work. It was very complex, and there were only minor differences between each version of the same scene, so it was like puzzle pieces, and really paying attention to what moment we’re in, and what angle we’re in, and continuity and things like that."

Dakota Johnson continued that she sometimes failed to keep track of which version she was shooting for and felt a little “lost". However, the actress sang praises for SJ Clarkson, appreciating the director for always being so attentive. “Yes, I did get very lost and SJ always knew exactly where we were, which was really incredible," she concluded.

Earlier, Madame Web producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura spoke about the reason for the missing post-credit scenes in the film. Calling it a “conscious decision", the producer revealed that the makers wanted an “ambiguity that stood hand to hand where that other piece would then solidify it in a certain direction." He added that Madame Web’s storyline was distinct from other movies in the Spider-Man franchise.
