An 71-year-old nun was allegedly gangraped by dacoits on Saturday, triggering protests and blockades of roads and railway tracks even as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ordered a CID probe into the incident.

According to authorities at a convent school in Ranaghat sub-division, the gang broke into the convent after 12:30 AM and three-four of them raped the woman after gagging her.

The gang also decamped with Rs 12 lakh which was kept in the almirah locker.

The SP also announced that a reward of Rs 1 lakh would be given to any individual providing credible information leading to the arrest of the accused.

"A reward of Rs 1 lakh would be given to anyone who will give correct and relevant information," he said.

Nadia Superintendent of Police Arnab Ghosh told a press conference that a study of the CCTV footage at the convent had shown them visuals of four persons who were allegedly involved in the crime.
