The much-anticipated Tamil film Thangalaan, starring superstar Chiyaan Vikram and directed by Pa Ranjith, is set to release on August 15. With barely a day left for the release of this film, the pre-booking is going on at a brisk pace and has reportedly earned the film Rs 2.50 crore. As per reports, this period action drama has been produced on a massive budget of Rs 100-Rs 150 crore. This drama boasts a stellar star cast starring Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathy and others. Studio Green and Neelam Productions have produced this film. The advance booking for the film commenced on August 11 in Kerala. Thangalaan is being distributed in the state by Gokulam Gopalan’s Sree Gokulam movies. Due to the recent landslide in the Wayanad area, Kerala promotions for Thangalaan were cancelled. Sree Gokulam Movies, in collaboration with Studio Green, declared that the funds billed for the promotion would be donated to the Chief Minister’s relief fund.
The makers of the film are promoting Thangalaan in Tamil and Telugu extensively ahead of the release. The theatrical trailer, which dominated the headlines upon its release, has sparked the excitement surrounding the movie.
Till now, the trailer has received 12 million views and received many positive reviews from viewers. It shows Vikram and his men and a Britisher called Lord Clement searching for gold. Malavika Mohanan enacts a sorceress called Aarathi, protecting the land from being exploited.
As per an official statement, the advanced bookings for the Tamil version of Thangalaan opened on August 10. Thangalaan is based on true events that revolve around the lives of mine workers in the Kolar Gold fields of Karnataka during the pre-independence time.
National Award winner GV Prakash Kumar has scored the music for the film. A Kishor Kumar has handled the cinematography, while Seva RK is in charge of the editing. SS Murthy is responsible for the art direction. Stunner Sam has choreographed the stunts. Dream Big Films is the distribution partner, while Sabari is in charge of the PRO. Thangalaan is set to stream on Netflix after completion of its theatrical run, which has been announced as the official OTT platform of the film. A premiere date is yet to be revealed.
