KOCHI: Owing to  the craze of the customers to own a good bike at an     affordable price, the number of outlets that offer second-hand bikes are on  the rise in the city. There is a big demand for used bikes as such outlets are the only way for bike lovers with budget constraints to realise their dreams. “At present, we sell around 30 used bikes a month. We also provide exchange   offers for customers,” said K K Ibrahim of Fasttrack, Kaloor.  The price of a  two-wheelers depends on its condition. A two-wheeler will be priced after checking the model, body parts, engine, carburetor and headlamp. “The most important factor is the genuineness of  the papers. We will purchase a bike for second sale only after checking the RC book, identity proof and other valid documents,” he said. Bikes above 150cc are preferred by people between 20 and 25 years. “There is a demand for bikes like Honda CBR, Yamaha R15 and Bajaj Pulsar among the youth. We have women customers who come in search of Activa,  Scooty, Pleasure and Axis,” he added. Ibrahim said there are some customers who seek specified models. “There is a demand for vintage models. Seventies-model Bullets, Yamaha 135 and RXD and Yezdi are in great demand. These bikes are priced comparatively higher than  new models as they are not easily available. Classic bullets of the 70’s in good condition will fetch the owner something around Rs 70,000 to Rs 1 lakh,” he added. Ibrahim said that normally the sales and buying would be the highest during festive seasons like Onam.  “March is usually an off-season as far as second-hand bikes sale is considered,” he added. He said the only challenge in used-bike business was fraudsters who approach  us with fake papers for selling their bikes. “When someone without proper identity proof and paper comes to sell or purchase bikes, we inform the police. The cops give us the registration numbers of bikes that are stolen so that we can let them know if they are brought to our outlets,” he added.
