New Delhi: Tarun Tahliani's Fall/Winter collection at the opening day of the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week was an inflection of orientalism that ran through an armoire of kaftans, tunics, jackets and dresses.

Hints of China reflected in the show through the music and splashes of fiery red and teal.

Net orientalist jackets, mandarin collars, fringing and keyhole cut-outs combined with panelling, modest ambis and textile weaves presented a tiny slice of the East.

The show was as opulent as Tahiliani's previous ones. The mystique created through the huge metallic curtains with soft red light in the background and models strutting down in wooden hats covered with feathers set the perfect tone for the grand opening of one of India's biggest fashion event.

The collection had its footprints set in both sensibilities - a kaftan with Chinese embroidery with a panel of intricate chikankari down the yoke or a jacket that's drenched with imperial blue, edged in handloom overlay.

Obi belts over sarees, agate belts over palazzo pants and dresses and saree-inspired dresses ruled the collection that had the audience enthralled.
