ALUVA: Hundreds of inmates of the Janaseva Sisubhavan, led by chairman Jose Mavely, paid final tribute to Janaseva Founder Patron K R Rajan at his residence on Tuesday. Amid prayers by the children, Jose Mavely placed wreath on behalf of Janaseva, honouring the man responsible for keeping the Sisubhavan up and running. K R Rajan, also a former District Collector of Ernakulam, had a longstanding relation with Janaseva. He was the founder patron of the social organization when it was formed in Aluva with Jose Mavely as president, back in 1996. District Collector K R Rajan encouraged the Janaseva workers to extend help to the needy. It was on Rajan’s advice in 1997 that the organisation began the free mid-day meals scheme for the benefit of high school students of weak economic background. This was considered a revolutionary social scheme then, especially since the government was providing free noon meals to poor students only upto UP classes at that time. The other big achievement of Rajan was the constitution of the Janaseva Sisubhavan to provide shelter and education to street children, protecting them falling prey to child labour, sexual exploitation, theft and other vices. In his condolence message, Jose Mavely recalled the immense contributions of Late Rajan which laid the platform for the formation and growth of Janaseva which has been extending unparalleled service to the society.
