Mumbai: Samsung has started the roll out of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for its Galaxy S II smartphone that comes with Texas Instruments based chipset.

Samsung has pushed out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for its Galaxy S II GT-I9100G smartphone. This Galaxy S II GT-I9100G smartphone has different internal hardware compared to the Galaxy S II GT-I9100. Apart from model number difference, the former comes with Texas Instrument chipset.

The Galaxy S II GT-I9100G smartphone retails with dual-core, 1.2 GHz Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 mobile processor coupled with PowerVR SGX540 graphics chip.

Compared to the regular Galaxy S II's Exynos processor, the Texas Instruments processor offers slightly better talk time but that's about it.

Otherwise, average consumer can hardly make out the difference because the packaging of both the variants is the same. Several users were frustrated to learn that their Galaxy S II still hasn't got the Android 4.0 ICS update despite other users already receiving it.

Users can manually check if the update is available for them or not through the system updates option of settings app. Alternatively, users can connect their phones to the Samsung Kies software on the PC or Mac to fetch the update.

The new update is being rolled out for this Galaxy S II variant in several countries but Indian users might have to wait for a week or two for it.
