KOZHIKODE: The police firing incident at the Kozhikode Engineering College on Monday is getting murkier as the police version of receiving an order from the Executive Magistrate to open fire turned out to be false.According to the report submitted by Tehsildar N Premraj, who was present during the clash between the police and SFI activists, he had not given any direction to open fire to disperse the protesters.Premraj made it clear that he was not entrusted with the duty of Executive Magistrate and that he had reached the spot on the direction of the District Collector P B Salim at 9.15 am and left the scene at 10.30 am.He further said that Narendran, the Special Tehsildar for Land Acquisition, who had the powers of Executive Magistrate, was present on the spot. However, Premraj’s report did not say anything about the firing or the incidents that led to it, but only about being witness to lathicharge and use of teargas shells against the mob.Kozhikode City Police Commissioner G Sparjan Kumar maintained that the Tehsildar had given the order to open fire at the mob.
