HYDERABAD: A division bench of the High Court, comprising justice V.Eshwariah and justice G. Krishna Mohan Reddy, on Thursday admitted a an appeal filed by the accused in the Paritala Ravi murder case for annulling the life term sentence awarded by the sessions judge, Anatapur. The convicts—Ranganayakulu, Kondiah and V.Srinivasulu— challenged the judgement and sentence of the sessions judge given on August 25.While the two other principal accused, Maddelacheruvu Suri and Moddu Srinu, died, the surviving accused were sentenced to life for having hurled bombs at the site of the offence on January 24, 2005.The petitioners claimed innocence and said the Anantapur court erred in unduly relying upon the evidence of the approver, Ram Mohan Reddy, who is accused number 9 in the case.City Police’s Working Flummoxes JudgeJustice Ramesh Ranganathan was perplexed by the police functioning during the hearing of a complaint that Chilakalaguda police were not acting on a serious complaint lodged with them. The judge was dealing with a writ petition filed by G. Anjali complaining that she had lodged a complaint with the police of Chilakalaguda in March that she had been forcibly evicted from her premises and that that an attempt to rape her was also made and yet the police did not take action. The police responded stating that they had investigated the matter and found that there was no material to support her charge and intended to close the case. When the petitioner complained that even her statement was not recorded under the CrPC, the judge called for the case diary. The judge was surprised that even the statement said to have been recorded was not to be found and wondered what happened.“It was misplaced” was the response from the police. The judge then examined the inspector of police Burrappa whose answers too did not convince the judge who then summoned the ACP and the earlier investigating officer to be present in court on Friday.Contempt Case Against Hyd CollectorJustice CV Nagarjuna Reddy heard Hyderabad district collector Natarajan Gulzar’s arguments in a contempt case and granted the government a week’s time to reconsider its stance. Brij Raj Singh and other members of the family filed the contempt case stating inter alia they had earlier been engaged in a long-drawn litigation with regard to ownership of about 46 acres of land at Rajdharkanpet, near Mallepally, and despite their win of a court case the revenue authorities were not altering the land records. They complained that even after the High Court issued positive directions to the collector to consider their subsisting rights, he failed to do comply and, on the contrary, raised technical questions.  The judge, who heard the advocate-general for some time, adjourned the matter by a week.
