Murud tragedy: Maharashtra government issues guidelines, asks students to avoid beaches, rivers and mountains

Mumbai: In the wake of Murud tragedy, Maharashtra government on Friday issued guidelines asking students to avoid beaches, rivers and mountains.

The government said teachers should be trained to deal with emergency situations. The students should have authority/permission letter from their parents before going on any trip.

The students upto high school should not be taken for trekking or activities involving swimming. The government has also asked them to avoid water parks and adventure parks.

Total 28 guidelines have been issued with regard to prohibiting educational institutions from arranging trips and tours to areas that could pose danger to students.

This came after, 14 students of Abeda Inamdar College in Pune, including 10 girls, aged between 18 and 20, had drowned in the Sea at Murud.

Parents of some of the college students have alleged "negligence" on the part of the college authorities in the aftermath of the incident. A condolence meet organized by the Abeda Inamdar College saw the parents of the victims gherao PA Inamdar, president of the Maharashtra Cosmopolitan Education Society (MCES), the group that runs the college.
