New Delhi: Olympic bronze medalist Vijender Singh is increasingly getting boxed in after the massive haul of over 26 kilograms of heroin from Zirakpur worth Rs 130 crore. The police claim that constable and boxer Ram Singh said that he and Vijender Singh visited drug smuggler Anup Singh Kahlon several times and purchased drugs at least six times from him.
"So far we have nabbed two NRIs from Canada, and four from Patiala. Ram Singh is being questioned. We have not concluded the investigation," said HS Mann, SSP Fatehgarh Sahib.
In a twist, prime accused Anup Singh Kahlon attempted suicide. Kahlon slashed his wrist and was taken to the civil hospital in Fatehgarh Sahib for treatment.
Dr Sunil Juneja at the hospital said, "He was brought to us by the police with some injuries on the right side of his body. We treated him and the police then took him away."
Police say the case is very complex. The police have so far arrested six persons: Anup Singh Kahlon, Kulwinder Singh Rocky, Kuldeep Singh, Sandeep Singh, Mandeep Singh, Gabbar Singh and the total haul of drugs so far is 30 kg of heroin, 60 kg of synthetic drug-making chemicals, and Rs 1.8 crore in cash. They hope Vijender Singh's questioning will further unravel the questions thrown up by this major drug smuggling bust in Punjab.
