The District Crime Branch (DCB) is set to initiate efforts to trace documents containing information on the beneficiaries of scholarship funds that went missing from the Adi Dravidar Welfare (ADW) Department here after a case in this regard was transferred to the DCB from the Nallipalayam police on Saturday.
Talking to Express, Superintendent of Police P Kannammal said, “The case registered at the Nallipalayam police station in connection with the missing files has been transferred to the District Crime Branch on Saturday.”
Since a lot of records related to the case had to be verified, the DCB was asked to investigate into it, Kannammal added.
Files Missing
From 2003
The Nallipalayam police registered an FIR in connection with the missing documents on Wednesday. The Sellappanpatti Revenue Inspector (RI), A Rani, who had worked as Junior Assistant at the District ADW Department office during the period when money embezzlement was alleged, was named in the FIR. She was booked under Sections 410, 420 and 477 of IPC based on the complaint lodged by the PA (G) to the District Collector.
Key documents containing information on the beneficiaries of scholarship funds from 2003 to 2010 were missing from the Office of District ADW Officer and the records section.
When a police team led by the Nallipalayam inspector S Muthamilselvan interrogated her, Rani had denied tampering with any records or concealing them, an official said.
DVAC Case
Rani was among the 22 persons booked by the DVAC on charges of misappropriation of scholarship funds meant for college students. The FIR was registered on May 18 this year and, subsequently, the sleuths of DVAC conducted raids on the premises of some of those named in the FIR, including Rani, on the following day.
The case related to misappropriation of scholarship funds to the tune of `1 crore during the academic years 2009-10 and 2010-11.
