Shanbaug, who was in a vegetative state for 42 years following a brutal sexual assault by a ward boy in 1973, died at King Edward Memorial (KEM) hospital.
Mumbai: Maharashtra government on Tuesday announced that the state-run nursing training school in neighbouring Thane will be named after Aruna Shanbaug, the KEM staff nurse who died on Monday.
"Maharashtra government decides to give the late Aruna Shanbaug's name to nursing training school, Thane. Our infinite salutes to her spirit!" Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tweeted.
