Chennai: In a major reprieve to folk singer S Sivadas alias Kovan (45), who is facing sedition charges for allegedly lampooning Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa in two anti-liquor songs written and sung by him, the Madras High Court stayed his custodial interrogation.
Earlier on Friday, the lower court had granted 2-day police custody of Kovan. The singer was arrested for slamming Tamil Nadu government's liquor policy and caricaturing Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
Kovan, whose real name is S Sivadas, is a member of Makkal Kalai Ilakkiya Kazhagam, an outfit involved in revolutionary activities in Tamil Nadu.
