Srinagar: The musical intolerance in the valley is growing with more talents receiving threats. With less than a week to go for the Zubin Mehta concert, now a Kashmiri disk jockey has claimed that he is being threatened.
DJ Akki has claimed that he being abused online and has also received threat calls. He has filed a police complaint and has told CNN-IBN that he is going in hiding as he fears for his life.
He, however, said that he will continue to fight but will not stay in Kashmir. This comes just seven months after an all-girls band called Pragaash was forced to disband after being similarly threatened.
Meanwhile, preparations are on in full swing for the Zubin Mehta concert. Invites have been sent out even as separatist leader Geelani has called for a civil curfew on September 7.
The 90-minute concert would be telecast live in over 50 countries. Zubin Mehta is scheduled to arrive in a special plane along with his orchestra on September 5. Organisers and security agencies are now busy with the arrangements.
The forticulture department that manages the Shalimar Garden, the venue of the concert, is refurbishing the garden to create a stage for the over 100-member orchestra to be conducted by Zubin Mehta.
