BHUBANESWAR: Infighting in the Congress has delayed the announcement of new office-bearers at the State level even two months after the new OPCC president Niranjan Patnaik took charge. Senior Congress leader in-charge of Orissa Jagdish Tytler had announced during his last visit to the State that the new office-bearers would be announced shortly. Niranjan hinted at it several times. However, the office-bearers are yet to be announced. Tytler had announced that there would be no post of working president in the new setup. Besides, the Congress leader had also said those having links with the mining mafia will have no place in the future scheme of things of the Congress. However, there has been no action whatsoever. Sources said factions have been lobbying to get their nominees in the list of new office-bearers which has resulted in the inordinate delay. The three working presidents were appointed along with former OPCC president KP Singhdeo before the Assembly elections in 2009. Besides, the party has also become top-heavy with a number of vice-presidents and general secretaries.  But these have not brought any positive changes in the functioning of the party. Rather they have created more power centres, a senior leader said.  After Niranjan took over the reins, he appointed several committees to go through various issues. One of them was preparing the ‘chargesheet’ against the Naveen Patnaik Government and another one dealing with ‘horse-trading’ during the last Rajya Sabha polls.
