New Delhi: The awards season is upon us and this is the time when the best of Indian cinema is judged, reviewed rewarded for entertaining us in the past year. 2013 has seen a mixed bag of films comprising both popular and art house cinema. In our maiden initiative, we have selected nominees in various popular categories and will let our readers decide the outcome. It is a month long poll, so go ahead and vote for your favourite performers of 2013.
The Bollywood films might revolve around the lead pair but at times it's their onscreen mothers, friends and sisters who steal the show with their nuanced performances. They might not be the central character but they definitely make many sit upright and take notice of them. And, 2013 saw some of the actresses just steal the show in their supporting roles.
Here are our nominees for the best actress in a supporting role 2013.
Swara Bhaskar (Raanjhanaa): Kundan might have eyes only for Zoya but Bindiya is undeterred and that what makes her character much likable in the film. Swara Bhaskar manages to bring alive the character of Bindiya, who is lovable and madcap at the same time, with her impressive acting.
Supriya Pathak (Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram Leela): The lead characters of the films must have lost the plot if the villainous mother played by Supriya Pathak would not have been a part of the script. From instantly being happy to chopping off her daughter's finger to taking the prospective groom in custody, Supriya Pathak comes across as one of the best performers in 'Ram Leela'.
Divya Dutta (Bhaag Milkha Bhaag): Known as one of the most versatile actresses, Divya Dutta yet again enthralls everyone with her stellar performance in 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag'. The actress brings forth the care and affection as the elder sister of Farhan Akhtar (Milkha Singh) in the film.
Richa Chadda (Fukrey): The actress never minces words off screen and neither onscreen. She can mouth slangs with ease and carry on a bold avatar without much ado. Apart from the gags, there is something else which you can't forget about 'Fukrey'- Bholi Punjaban. Richa might have a small role in the film but the way she steps into the shoes of a mafia and still keeps the fun element intact, makes her one of the best performers in the recent times. Richa's raw and riveting work has made her stand out of the crowd.
Kangana Ranaut (Krrish 3): Who have thought that a mutant could be this hot! As a 'maanwar' in 'Krrish 3', Ranaut made more impact than the film's lead pair and managed to get rave reviews from critics as well as the masses. She goes for the kill with her villainous character and wows everyone with her superb performance.
