HYDERABAD: For the second year in a row, the red and blue flags waved together at the University of Hyderabad, marking the victory of the alliance between the Students’ Federation of India and the Ambedkar Students’ Association (SFI-ASA).The results of the university students’ union elections 2011- 12 were announced here on Thursday. The same alliance won the polls last year too. This year’s election saw a record voter turnout with over 3,000 students queueing up to cast their votes. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) came second in the race. The Telangana issue could not make much of an impact and the Telangana Students’ As s o c i a t i o n -Ba h u j a n Students’ Front (TSA-BSF) alliance could finish only third, after which stood the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI). “For the first time, ASA has won the president’s post in the university,” said the newly-elected president Prashanth.The varsity’s election commission expressed happiness over the peaceful election. Sambath, who has been elected as the general secretary, said the election is a victory of the ideas upheld by the Students’ Federation of India.Suresh G, SFI unit president, credited the victory to the achievements of the outgoing union under the same alliance. The average margin of victory of the newly- elected bunch of students was more than 680 votes.
