Gurjar-govt talks hit roadblock
Col Bainsla alleges the government is acting tough on the protestors.

New Delhi: Talks between Gurjars and the Rajasthan government have hit a roadblock. Gurjar leader Kirodi Singh Bainsla is refusing to carry forward the talks, saying the government is acting tough on the protestors even while engaging them in dialogue.

Bainsla is upset that injured protestors were arrested from the Sawai Man Singh hospital in Jaipur on Monday.

The government has also filed a second case of sedition against him. Though the government is trying to convince Bainsla to come to the negotiating table, the Gurjar leader says he will only do so after the women and injured Gurjars at the hospital are released.

The letter comes in the wake of demands made by the Gurjar Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti for release of arrested men and women protesters stalling the dialogue process.

He had also said that the Gurjars have been "assured that the arrested protesters, including women and the injured taken into custody after their released from hospital, will be freed, water and electricity supply restored and telecommunication jammers removed" from Karwadi area, where the agitation started on May 23.

His remarks came after he was briefed by the 37-member Gurjar delegation that took part in the parleys aimed at spadework for further negotations.

Referring to the demands made by the Gurjar leadership, the state government official today said that "we are trying to convince Bainsla that the women cannot be released since they have been arrested under the Railway Act for damaging public property and uprooting tracks and that these offences were non-bailable".
