CHENNAI: For the 20 cadets of the first armed squadron of NCC(TN) from DG Vaishnav College, it will be a challenge of a different kind: traversing 3,000 km on their motorbikes to spread the message of cancer awareness across the state. En route, they will create awareness about cancer and tobacco usage while undertaking a survey to assess people’s knowledge of the ‘Big C’.The expedition was flagged off on February 4, observed as World Cancer Day, by Chennai Corporation mayor Saidai S Duraisamy, at the Marina beach. The students will return home on February 19, after a journey which will cover 3150 kms and include awareness sessions in several educational institutions like SNR Sons College, Coimbatore, Palaniandavar College of Arts and Culture, Palani and St Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai. During this tour, the cadets will spread awareness about cancer through pamphlet and skits, said Lt Dr S Santhosh Baboo, who is leading the team.
