CHENNAI: The city police are on the look out for a 52-year-old ex-convict after he assaul ted a special sub-inspector at Seven Wells on Frida y.Police said Kamaraj (56) a special sub-inspector (SSI), was returning home at Kondithope, Seven Wells, when Palayam (52) attacked him with a sickle. He sustained severe injuries which needed 58 stitches.Police said Palayam was earlier involved in a murder and served a life term. After his release from prison, he was again arrested for chain snatching. During the arrest he had reportedly threatened to finish off Kamaraj.  Palayam assaulted Kamaraj after he was released on bail in the case.Rare turtles found in abandoned bagFour rare river turtles were found in a bag in GT Express at the Central Railway Station here on Saturday.Police said they found the bag in the general compartment of the train that arrived from Delhi. Suspecting explosives in it, a bomb detection unit with a sniffer dog arrived at the scene. But four turtles were found in the bag. Police sources said they believed it could have medicinal value. The turtles would be handed to the forest department and later given to the zoo. An investigation is on to trace the passenger who brought the bag.Vegitable vendor held for KandhuvattiThe city police arrested a vegetable vendor for demanding exorbitant interest  (kandhuvatti) on a loan and threatening a fellow vendor at Koyembedu on Saturday.Police arrested S Maharajan, who ran a secret finance company which charged high interest on loans. Maharajan had threatened a small time vendor Raji to pay Rs 60,000 for a loan of Rs 5,000 he received for another vendor Ramasamy in January 2008. Ramasamy had paid interest for six months and later went to his native and did not return. Maharajan asked Raji to return the money with interest or sign on a blank bond paper and threatened him with serious consequences.Youth, parents held for ignoring marriage Vinod (27) of Thachampattu near here who had married Suganthi (20) of the same village and refused to live with her was arrested on Saturday. The couple were in love and Suganthi became pregnant before marriage. When Vinod refused to marry her, she sought the help of the police, who conducted the marriage. Since then he has been avoiding to live with her. She lodged a complaint with the AWPS again, who arrested Vinod and his parents.
