KOZHIKODE: Vadakara police have registered a case against CPM State Secretariat member Elamaram Kareem MLA for allegedly threatening an officer with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the T P Chandrasekharan murder case. The case has been registered under Section 117 of the Kerala Police Act for threatening the police official following Special Branch’s report.Inaugurating the protest march organised by the CPM in front of the office of the Kozhikode Rural District Superintendent of Police, Vadakara on May 26, Elamaram Kareem had warned Crime Branch DySP K V Santhosh Kumar that UDF won’t be ruling the state forever. The march was organised to protest the arrest of CPM workers and leaders in connection with Chandrasekharan murder case. The comments and threats made by Elamaram were aimed at hindering the ongoing investigation by the SIT, said Vadakara police.Elamaram alleged that the investigation team probing the murder was biased and hostile to the CPM and they were slapping cases one after another against CPM activists and leaders. However, Elamaram Kareem told Express that he would fight the case legally and that there was nothing illegal in his speech delivered at the march.“I criticised the use of third degree methods by the investigation officers during the interrogation. This was on the basis of information received from the persons who were taken into custody by the police and was not aimed at obstructing the probe,” said Kareem. He added that the case was framed as per the direction of the UDF.“The speech was made on May 26 and the case was registered on May 30, after UDF leaders issued statements demanding to register case against Elamaram Kareem,” he added.
