Puducherry: BJP's Puducherry unit has appealed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to drop Union Minister Anbumani Ramadoss from the Cabinet or divest him of the Health portfolio for giving "wrong and misleading information" on chikungunya deaths.
Party state president R Keasvulu said that many people have died of chikungunya in the state. However, the Health Minister has disclaimed the deaths as due to the fever.
"How could the Union Health Minister deviate from the truth and make wrong claims and dispute the facts about the cause of death", he asked.
The Prime Minister should intervene and drop him from the ministry or effect shuffling within the cabinet to divest Ramadoss of the present portfolio, he demanded.
Kesavalu said that the "shifting stand" of Ramadoss in this matter, showed that he would also play a "totally unreliable role" in the JIPMER issue.
Kesavalu also expressed dismay over the alleged silence maintained by Chief Minister N Rangasamy in the JIPEMR issue.
He said his party would oppose the move "with tooth and nail" in the parliament during the coming session.
