Thiruvananthapuram: The press meet of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) at Kochi on Thursday witnessed fireworks after members failed to take a stand on the controversy related to the sexual assault of a prominent actress.
The organisation’s members found it difficult to explain their stand as questions started coming on the comments made against the actress by actor Dileep, who was questioned a day earlier by the police.
The conference soon dissolved into a shouting match.
In a reply to one of the questions, actor Mukesh, who is also a CPM MLA, shouted at the reporters, pointing fingers and screaming that these questions are unwanted. Another MLA K B Ganesh Kumar was also seen giving a similar response.
Meanwhile, superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal sat silently through this and did not utter a word.
President of AMMA and MP, Innocent, said," This issue was not discussed in the meeting. Initially when the incident happened, I spoke to the CM and the DGP who said that we should refrain from public statements. Since the matter is before the court we are not commenting on this. We are extending our support to the actress, and the actor, who had to go through hardships because of this."
He added that they trust the investigation that is going on in full swing and everyone will co-operate with it.
Ganesh said that for AMMA, all are equal and it extends support for both.
Dileep was questioned by the special investigation team for about 12 and a half hours on Wednesday. He has maintained that the police was recording his statement on his complaint that the main accused in the case, Sunil Kumar, was blackmailing him.
However, sources said that he was also questioned in conspiracy allegations in the case. Police have maintained that their investigation is ongoing and if required Dileep will be called again for questioning.
