HYDERABAD: It was a day of celebration and show of gratitude as students came together to celebrate Teachers’ Day in various schools and colleges on Monday by organising a host of programmes.  The academics received their due share of respect from the student community. Teacher’s Day was celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm at Hyderabad Public School. Students came dressed as teachers and donned the roles of their mentors to conduct mock classes. Later a colourful cultural programme was organised by the students. Students were all excited as they exchanged their roles with the teachers on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. “We celebrated Teachers’ Day by giving a break to our mentors today. We really love our teachers for  making us learn values and disciplines,” said Dheeraj, class XI student. Adding to this, a student from Lotus Lap Public School said, “The sole reason to play as teachers is to have a feel of the burden they carry on their shoulders everyday before they take a class.”Donning the role of a teacherStudents of Hyderabad Public School in the city spent the Teachers’ Day in appreciating the efforts of their teachers --- by donning the characters of their teachers and also by giving splendid performances at the school premises. Col R S Khatri, principal of HPS said, “God could not be everywhere so he created mothers, mothers could not be everywhere so we have teachers, that is the feeling all our students have, which they have expressed today.” Various performances at the celebrations included classical, modern, hip-hop, local mass and fusion dance followed by a skit that conveyed the message of how a teacher scolds a student for improvement and nothing else. Fashionable teachersThe teachers of Chinmaya Vidyalaya were thrilled to witness a host of performances by their students. Vijaya Lakshmi, an English teacher, said, “The programmes were planned by our students and they totally surprised us. Their coordination was perfect and I was amazed to see the talent in my students.” Apart from colourful dance performaces, students also conducted Anthakshari and a fashion show for teachers, where they had to walk down the ramp and were judged by the students. Vice principal, Vibha Pandey won the prize in the fashion show. Lalitha from English department said, “I am very happy by the  performances put up by students, I didn’t know our students are so grown up, they totally surprised us!” Management of school every year on Teachers’ Day felicitates teachers who complete 10 years of their service, so this time Nagamani of Telugu department, Hemalatha of Yoga department and Parvathi from the department of Value Education were honoured by the management. For the love of teachersStudents of St. Francis College for Women organised a series of programmes on the occasion of Teachers’ Day. They conducted quiz competition among teachers by dividing them into groups. Post which the college choir sang for their teachers very beautifully, followed by a dance performance. Divya Sree, a BA third year student, said, “We all love our teachers very much --- teachers have supported us whenever we needed and encouraged us throughout.” They also performed a skit of how students of different mother tongues like Telugu, Urdu and Tamil suffer to cope with English in schools and improve their skills in English all because of teachers. Sr Alphonsa, principal of the college, said, “It is a very beautiful day, students are recharged in love to celebrate Teachers’ Day. We all are very happy with the love students have for us.” The college honoured teachers by giving a Best Teacher Award and Commerce Dean Swaroopa Rani was awarded with the same.Summer Of 69Nasr school also had a big cultural event where most part of the school participated in organising the programme and all 12th standard students were dressed up in sarees.   Captains of the school performed classic Hindi numbers like Ek Do Teen and Jhumka Gira Re. They also sang melodies of English classic numbers like Summer Of 69. Anam Mirza, a student said, “The function went on very well. Our teachers didn’t expect this kind of programme from us, so they were very really happy and appreciated us a lot.”   The unique aspect of the Teachers’ Day celebrations at Nasr school was the theme for teachers --- they were to dress up like school students and many of the teachers wore their actual school uniforms.   It was a surprise for students as well as other teachers to see them dressed in school uniforms. Komal Singh, a teacher, said, “It was a beautiful organisation by children. The teachers looked so cute in school uniforms.”At other city schools and colleges, celebrations were in full swing. Celebrating the birthday of academic philosopher and India’s second President, Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, teachers and students reported to school but the usual activities and classes were replaced by activities of celebration, remembrance and appreciation.
