The India trio of Bheigyabati Chanu, Jhano Hansdah and Gagandeep won bronze in the women's compound archery event.

New Delhi: The India trio of Bheigyabati Chanu, Jhano Hansdah and Gagandeep won bronze in the women's compound archery event beating Malaysia 223-219 in the third place play-off tie at the Commonwealth Games on Thursday.

It was an exciting affair till the last three arrows were to be shot. Indians were 195 with three rounds while Malaysia finished at 219. When the last arrow was to be shot by Hansdah, India needed five points and Hansda shot eight to give India its first medal of the competition.

The Indians lost to Canada in the semi-finals while Malaysia were beaten by England in the other semi-final.

Yesterday turned out to be a memorable day for the compound trio when Chanu, Hansdah and Kaur hit a record 227 to thrash the Aussies who managed a score of 220.

Chanu, was in prime form hitting four perfect 10s during the Australia match.

"We are happy with our performance. All of us held our nerves in pressure situation to clinch the bronze," Chanu said.
