VELLORE: Poverty can be more cursing when it comes to raising children. Families in such situations struggle to raise kids, especially if there are more than one. Then imagine the plight of a couple which had a quintuplet!Ask Raseena of Karungapalli in Kollam district of Kerala, who had delivered a quintuplet 12 years ago, how she and her husband had been battling all odds to raise them. She and her husband Nazar, her five children Mohamed Ali, Mohamed Adil, Sumaiya, Subeena and Shabeena were here on Thursday to meet a group of individuals who had been supporting the family all these years. Nazar, a truck driver, said that newspapers carried stories about their plight as soon as the children were born in 1999. Vellore NGO Udavum Ullangal, led by its president R Chandrasekaran, responded to the news items and had offered to help the family. With the help of local philanthropists here, the NGO had sent Rs 1,000 immediately and Rs 500 for the next six months to support the family. V Subramanian (73) who runs a lodge and a grocery outlet here, volunteered to support Nazar’s family. At the end of this trip Nazar’s family also received Rs 8,000 towards for education and clothing.
