SAMBALPUR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik accompanied by Health and Family Welfare Minister Prasanna Acharya visited the flood-hit areas in Sambalpur and Sonepur districts on Tuesday.The Chief Minister flew in directly to Dhama, the controversial site of the proposed Sindol project and distributed relief comprising rice, blankets and utensils among select flood-affected people at Dhama health centre. Speaking to the affected people, a visibly moved Naveen admitted to widespread loss and devastation due to flood. He said the State Government was aware of crop loss and damage to houses and reiterated the commitment of his Government to compensate the loss suffered by the people.Seeking cooperation and support of the people in mitigating the woes of the flood-hit, Naveen expressed satisfaction at the performance of the district administration in relief and rescue operations. Earlier, the Chief Minister flew to Sonepur and visited Betrapada and Gulapada in Binka block. However, Naveen faced protests both at Sambalpur and Sonepur over Sindol and delay in reaching out to the flood victims. Three persons, including BJP leader Govind Agrawal, were arrested while 22 others of anti-Sindol organisations detained after they greeted Naveen with black flags demanding scrapping of the Sindol Project. Similarly, in Binka and Rampur, at least 40 persons including former Sonepur MLA Binod Patra, DCC president Ashok Pujari and former zilla parishad president Ananda Barik were arrested for protesting Naveen’s visit.
