An atomic research team may visit Jharkhand to study causes of people being afflicted with physical deformities and their prevention in some mineral resources areas of the state.
"Sending an atomic energy team would be considered to study the problem (of physical deformity) and its prevention," Planning Commission member K Kasturirangan said during his meeting with Chief Minister Hemant Soren in Ranchi on Monday.
Soren raised the problem saying Jharkhand faces problems of polluted ground water in some areas, afflicting the people with physical disabilities.
Several reports have been published on people residing near East Singhbhum district's Jadugoda area and some villages in Garhwa district facing deformities.
The Planning Commission also said Jharkhand has enormous development prospects as its land, water and environment suits it.
"What is necessary is," Kasturirangan added, "completing programmes in a time bound manner," an official communique said quoting him.
The four-member Planning Commission team was on a two-day visit to the state since Sunday.
