BANGALORE: The High Court on Monday directed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the State Government to come up with a proper solution on their stand on the rehabilitation of the evacuees in Hampi. A division bench comprising Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice A S Bopanna gave this direction after the ASI submitted its report in the case. The State Government’s counsel Devdas submitted that the government is ready to share the 50 percent of the rehabilitation cost and it has already sent a proposal to the ASI in this connection.The court directed government and ASI to hold a meeting and come to a conclusion on the issue and it stated, “Hampi is the only heritage site and it should be saved,”. Later, the matter was adjourned to October 17.Hospet Assistant Commissioner Karigowda informed earlier that 9.5 acres of land has been reserved for rehabilitation of the evacuees but the State Government is yet to release the grants.
