Abandoned briefcase at Kadapa station causes scare

Even with the tragic news of the train accident in Nellore still lingering in the minds of people, a briefcase found in the AC waiting  room at Kadapa railway station on Monday, alarmed the police and railway officials. As news about the briefcase spread citizens in the town too panicked.

A railway staffer who noticed the VIP briefcase tied to a chair with a kerchief since 3.30 am, reported it to railway SI Madhusudhan Gowd around 9.30 am as it still remained unclaimed.

As a precaution, railway police requisitioned the bomb squad which promptly arrived at the station.

The bomb squad personnel while scanning the briefcase noticed signals indicating that some electronic objects were inside. They took it to the Arts college ground to open it with a remote-controlled mild blast.

However, as the ground was close to IOC oil tankers, the squad carefully took the briefcase to the police firing ground, where they opened it. Bomb squad personnel Ravisankar, Nagaraju, Raju and AR SIs Srisailam Reddy and Vijaya Kumar Reddy conducted the operation, ending the suspense at last around 5 pm.

Inside the briefcase, police found a pair of clothes, a DVD player, remote control device, chargers, a bank passbook, passport and adhar card.

On the basis of this police concluded that the briefcase belongs to one Shabandri Mohammad Irshad of Batkal, Karnataka.

Police are still not sure, whether the person forgot his briefcase or deliberately left it there. Police are investigating.
