Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger plans to sign a defender before the end of the World Cup.
Johannesburg: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger plans to sign a defender before the end of the World Cup.
Wenger is in South Africa working as a commentator for French television during the month-long tournament and says he will add to the Gunners' ranks before the July 11 final.
Wenger says he is not close to completing a deal but that "there will be something happening before the end of the World Cup ... on the defensive side."
Arsenal needs a replacement for central defender William Gallas. The France international's contract expires at the end of this season and he can leave on a free transfer.
