Mancini begins talks on new Man City deal
Mancini's deal at the club is due to run out at the end of next season.

Manchester: Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is in talks with the clubs owners over extending his current deal at the club, which is due to run out at the end of next season, according to The Guardian.

The 47-year-old Italian boss is currently in Abu Dhabi to discuss the club's potential transfer targets next season as he looks to move swiftly to avoid a repeat of last summer's Samir Nasri move and any other protracted sagas that could potentially hamper the team's pre-season plans.

While Mancini is there with first-team coach David Platt, director of football administration Brian Marwood and acting chief exceutive John McBeath, fresh talks over a new deal are thought to have been started.

The former Inter Milan manager currently has 12 months to run on his £3.5m-a-year contract and is thought to be angling for a pay rise to bring his annual salary up to something closer to the £5m mark.

City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak is known to be an admirer of Mancini's work and after the club's title triumph, he remains in a strong bargaining position, with a three or four-year deal mooted.
