Italy's Prandelli signs two-year contract extension
Prandelli signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him in charge of the Azzurri through the 2016 European Championship.

Rome: Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has signed a two-year contract extension that will keep him in charge of the Azzurri through the 2016 European Championship.

Prandelli and the federation had already verbally agreed on the extension two months ago. His previous contract was set to expire after the upcoming World Cup in Brazil.

Prandelli left Fiorentina to take charge of the Azzurri in 2010 and transformed Italy from a side that was eliminated in the first round of the World Cup to Euro 2012 runner-up.

At the World Cup, Italy are in Group D with England, Costa Rica and Uruguay.

Giuseppe Rossi's dedication in his pursuit of a spot on Italy's World Cup squad has caught the eye of coach Cesare Prandelli.

The United States-born striker returned earlier this month from his latest right knee injury and only has a week left to convince Prandelli that he has regained full fitness.

Prandelli says Monday, "I see a kid making great sacrifices and dreaming with open eyes. That's a message that should make all the components of this squad reflect." Rossi is one of seven forwards in Prandelli's 30-man preliminary squad.
