I-League: Chirag United beat HAL, ONGC held
Chirag returned to winning ways after two consecutive draws in the league.

Kolkata: Chirag United rode on Jerri Zirsangha's lone strike to beat Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., Bangalore, 1-0 in a round-five I-League match at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan here on Thursday.

Having missed the last match against Pune FC due to double booking, Zirsangha made a superb comeback striking the match-winning goal at the stroke of halftime as Chirag returned to winning ways after two consecutive draws.

Chirag, who had won their first-round match but only to lose in the next, moved one place up in the table to be on sixth position with eight points from five matches.

The Bangalore outfit lost one place to be on sixth position with seven points.

With Denson Devadas, Arnab Mondal and Zirsangha back in the lineup, Chirag looked a formidable outfit and did not allow HAL to cash in on any opportunity.

Zirsangha found the net after Man-of-the-Match Lalkamal Bhowmick laid one for the surging former Dempo midfielder, who was running in from the left side of the box.

Chirag almost made it 2-0 in the second half but their star forward Joshimar D Silva was unlucky with his shot from a Bhowmick corner.

In Kolhapur, debutants ONGC's search for their maiden win in the I-League continued after Pune FC rallied from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw in a fifth-round match at the Rajashri Shahu stadium.

Trailing 0-1 for a major part of the match, the visitors scored through Mandjou Keita in the 88th minute to crush ONGC's hopes.

Earlier, ONGC surged ahead in the first half following a strike by ND Opara in the 28th minute.

While ONGC have three points from five matches, Pune FC, runners-up in the previous season, have four points from as many matches.
