Actors Emraan Hashmi and Mallika Sherawat’s feud in the early 2000s was much talked about. Their scintillating onscreen chemistry in Anurag Basu’s Murder grabbed a lot of attention and ironically, that remained their first and last collaboration. In Mandira Bedi’s The Love Laugh Live Show a few years back, Mallika admitted to their fallout stating that it was ‘childish’.
Needless to say, their fans were elated when the duo was captured hugging and chatting with each other at an event in Mumbai in April this year, thus putting an end to their 20-year-long fight. Now in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Emraan opens up on meeting Mallika, a moment that went viral on social media. “It was very warm and cordial. I saw her after a very long time. I don’t think we had an encounter like in a long time. I had her a couple of times after the release of Murder,” he says.
He went on to even address their fallout and attributed to the impulsiveness of youth. “We were young and stupid at that time. You go through a phase in your life when your decision making power is so limited that and you’re just so impulsive. Some mean things were said by her and some by me. But those are all bygones,” he states.
The viral video led many of their fans to wish for a film with the two of them. Emraan too hopes to share screen space with Mallika soon. “We kept all of that aside. It was long back. It was very nice seeing and meeting her. She was very warm and so was I. She’s a co-actor I wish I could have worked again with,” he adds.
For the unversed, their public digs following the release of Murder became the talk of the town. Months after the film was out, Emraan and Mahesh Bhatt graced the Koffee With Karan couch. When he was asked about the ‘worst kisser’ among his co-stars, Emraan cheekily mentioned Mallika. Further, when he was asked to name something one would find in her bedroom, he said, ‘An idiot’s handbook to succeed in Hollywood’. Later, she hit back at him saying that the snake she kissed in Hisss was a better kisser than Emraan.
On the work front, the Tiger 3 actor is awaiting the release of the second part of his Disney+ Hotstar series, Showtime, on July 12. Talking about the ‘positive feedback’ he received for the first part, Emraan says, “What people reacted to was that it was a breezy, entertaining and fun take on our industry. We sprinkled a lot of truths about it in a very interesting way. I would want to give credit to the writers for that. It captured the idiosyncrasies of producers and stars in an industry where relationships are fickle, transient and fleeting and where there’s no permanence of success and failure and stocks go up and down.”
