The much-talked-about show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati‘ (KBC) on Sony TV has changed the lives of countless contestants. Many have won crores by answering questions correctly and came to limelight. Yet, despite their initial fame, their popularity waned over time.

One such contestant is Sushil Kumar from Bihar, who gained fame on Season 5 of the reality show, aired on November 2, 2011. Sushil made history by becoming the first contestant to win Rs 5 crore, earning him widespread praise and attention.

Now, more than a decade later, ‘Crorepati Sushil’ has hit the headlines back again. He’s a government teacher in Bihar and is using his salary to build a library in his school to support his students’ learning.

Sushil Kumar belonged to the lower middle class but had high passions. In 2011, when he was one of the participants in KBC, he was a computer trainer in MNREGA. He received a modest salary of Rs 6,000 per month.

There were several reports about Sushil Kumar that he had become bankrupt following his win in KBC. However, Sushil did not pay much heed to these and remained a source of inspiration for the society. He remained active in many environmental conservation campaigns including sparrow conservation and ‘Champa se Champaran’.

Sushil Kumar cracked the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) Teacher Recruitment Exam. He is now teaching at Tejpurwa High School at East Champaran district after securing a rank of 119 in the examination. He was selected in the second phase of BPSC Teacher Recruitment.

In addition to building the library, Sushil Kumar has provided sports equipment for the children using his own funds. He also raises environmental awareness among children by organizing tree plantation drives at his school.

In a conversation with Local18, Sushil Kumar said, “The society belongs to all of us. So we have to take responsibility and work in such a manner that inspires society.”
