CBSE Allows Students With Basic Mathematics in Class 10 to Take The Subject in Class 11
According to the latest notification issued by CBSE, students who have studied basic math in class 10 will now be allowed to take up the course as a proper subject in class 11.

In order to make mathematics easier for the students, CBSE gives the option to choose between basic and standard math for students in class 10. Basic mathematics is for those students who do not want to opt for the subject in classes 11 and 12.

CBSE recently introduced a new policy for students in class 11. According to the latest notification issued by CBSE, students who have studied basic math in class 10 will now be allowed to take up the course as a proper subject in class 11. Earlier, the policies permitted that students who had taken basic mathematics in class 10 were not allowed to take the subject in the next class and could only choose applied math.

“For the session 2024-2025 too, as many changes are proposed because of NEP, hence, after detailed deliberations, the following has been decided by the Board. The relaxation in this rule to continue further for the academic session 2024-25 only. Thus, students who offered Mathematics Basic (241) are also allowed to offer Mathematics (041) in class X1,” the board said in an official statement.

Despite the notification, the school has the full right, and they must ensure that the students have the right aptitude and ability to take mathematics in senior classes. If they feel that students lack abilities, they can stop them from taking the subject. The notification further read, “Before permitting Mathematics Standard (041) to such students, the head of the institution/school should satisfy that the student must have the right aptitude and ability to pursue Mathematics Standard (041) in class 11.”

The CBSE has made it official that whatever subject the student chooses from the List of Candidates (LOC), they will not be allowed to make any changes later. As a result, students are required to carefully choose their options before making the right decision.
