Prince Harry flew back to the United States, just 26 hours after arriving to meet his ailing father, King Charles III who has recently been diagnosed with cancer.
The Duke of Sussex arrived in London from the USA on Tuesday to be at King Charles’ side, raising hopes of a royal truce. He flew by a British Airways flight to London Heathrow alone leaving wife Meghan and children Archie and Lilibet at home in California.
Harry boarded the 11-hour flight hours soon after Charles, 75, revealed he was ill, media reports said.
Harry’s Return to US
However, on Wednesday Harry arrived back at Heathrow airport for an expected flight back to the United States, around 26 hours after he jetted in.
The prince, dressed casually in jeans, a T-shirt and jacket, was pictured by The Sun daily arriving at the VIP Windsor Suite at Heathrow’s Terminal 5.
King Charles’s Cancer Diagnosis
King Charles’s diagnosis comes just 17 months into his reign following the death of his 96-year-old mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8, 2022.
“During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer. His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual,” the Buckingham Palace said in a statement.
“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.
His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer,” read the statement.
Rift Between Prince Harry and Royal Family
Duke of Sussex Harry’s return sparked speculation that it could serve as a catalyst to heal the family tensions that have blighted Charles’s reign.
He quit royal duties in 2020 and relocated to California where he now lives with his American wife Meghan Markle and their two young children.
The prince has repeatedly aired his complaints about the way he feels he and his wife were mistreated during their time as working royals, culminating in January 2023 with his autobiography “Spare”.
