This week’s presidential debate between US Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump has ignited a flurry of conspiracy theories. The fiery debate, which drew millions of viewers, was marked by intense exchanges and has since created buzz on social media.
Shortly after the debate, wild claims floated on the internet claiming that Harris was wearing clip-on audio headphones disguised as her pearl earrings. Without providing any evidence, dozens of social media users on X said that her earrings were Icebach Sound Solutions’ Nova H1 Audio Earrings, a Bluetooth device designed to resemble jewelry, according to the New York Post.

Malte Iversen, managing director of Icebach, added fuel to the fire with his comments to tech outlet Tom’s Guide. Iversen said, “We do not know whether Mrs. Harris wore one of our products. The resemblance is striking.” He humorously suggested creating a male version of the device for Trump, noting that the colour orange would pose a design challenge.

Despite the viral claims, experts and fact-checkers quickly debunked the conspiracy. Harris’s earrings were confirmed to be the Double Pearl Hinged Earrings from Tiffany & Co., which cost some $800. In contrast, Icebach’s Bluetooth earrings are priced at around $625 and have a different design.
Conspiracy theories
Harris, in the past, has slammed the use of Bluetooth earpieces as a security risk and has been seen using wired earbuds during her campaign. The ongoing speculation highlights the heightened scrutiny that often accompanies political debates, reminiscent of similar conspiracy theories during the 2016 and 2020 elections, where opponents of Trump were accused of using earpieces.
The controversy surrounding Harris’s earrings has not gone unnoticed by Icebach Sound Solutions, which announced plans to address the rumors during an upcoming appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” The company said it has received numerous interview requests since the debate and chose Fallon for the exclusive.
“Following the presidential debate we have been contacted by numerous TV shows for interviews,” the Munich-based company was quoted as saying by The Post. “After thorough discussions we have decided that we will grant one live interview … our chosen interviewer is Jimmy Fallon, a trusted Bavarian in heart.”
