As per belief, the ritual was performed to appease the rain God.
In the clip, we can see two frogs in traditional Indian attire. Several people can be seen sitting in front of the ‘couple’ as a priest is chanting mantras. As the clip moves forward, people perform rituals on the frogs and a few women can be seen singing traditional songs during the wedding ceremony.
“A wedding like no other Locals in Varanasi, UP arranged a “wedding” between a male and a female frog, in hopes of appeasing the rain gods and getting respite from the heat. We can’t be sure if it works, but it makes for a whimsical tale for sure,” the text attached to the clip read.

Reportedly, the tradition of marrying frogs is deeply rooted in folklore and traditional farming practices, particularly in regions where the rainy season plays a major role in agriculture. Frog marriage is believed to be a symbolic prayer to the Gods for rain, as frog croaking is generally associated with the arrival of rain.
Incidents like this often capture the attention of the audience. Earlier, a Gurugram-based couple held a marriage ceremony for their pet dog Sheru to a neighbourhood canine Sweety. Well, that’s not all, the wedding also included pheras, the most important part of an Indian wedding. The owners also sent out 100 wedding invitations in their neighbourhood. One of the dog owners told news agency ANI that a haldi ceremony was also organised for both the dogs.
