Simran Gupta, the Miss Gorakhpur of 2018, is now the ‘Model Chai Wali’. She briefly entered the modelling industry after winning Miss Gorakhpur and was offered many ads. However, the Covid-19 pandemic stalled her progress. In an interview with The Better India, she said the pandemic forced her to move back to her parents’ house. And now she’s going viral again.
A video, posted by a food blogging channel The Hungry Panjabi, shows Gupta brewing chai at her roadside food joint. In the video, the former beauty queen transforms into a spirited businesswoman who does not hesitate to roll up her sleeves and get the job done.
The video has garnered over 13 million Instagram views in four days.
Inspired by MBA Chai Wala Prafull Billore and another tea seller, Priyanka Gupta from Patna, Guota, too, opened her tea stall in Lucknow.
In the now-viral video, Gupta makes masala chai. While most people on social media applauded her for being entrepreneurial, others complained of cleanliness. The users noted she had her hair loose and continuously touched it while handling food items.
A user said, “Saare baal k dandruff daal de chai mai aur bol de cheese wali chai hai.” (Put all your dandruff in the tea and call it cheese tea).
Another user mentioned, “Chai with a hint of hair.”
Yet another user went on to say, “Sab apna original profession chodo aur chai, vada pao aur kullad pizza becho” (Everyone should quit their original profession and start selling chai, vada pav, and kulhad pizza).
