In a shocking incident, a man tried to rob a post office in Nottingham, England with a log serving spoon. The man, identified as Jelanie Scott, tried to steal cash from the Hyson Green Post Office by reaching for the money using a long metal spoon. The police later identified him from the CCTV footage and arrested him after nine days. He was spotted by patrolling officers in Forest Road West, Radford.

Scott told the police that he was struggling with his mental health and had taken cocaine and heroin before the incident which impaired his judgement. The 36-year-old was charged with attempted burglary. He was sentenced at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on February 21. He pleaded guilty.

Another person wrote, “Imagine being high on cocaine and heroin, robbing a post office and still not getting any jail time!! This country is an absolute joke!” Expressing a similar sentiment, another person wrote, “Why does no one ever get sent to prison now days always leniency which is why people keep re offending.”

Sergeant Mark Southgate, of the City Central neighbourhood policing team, said in the press note, “There was overwhelming evidence in this case and I am pleased Scott has been held to account for his actions. He told officers it was a stupid thing to do and I hope he now reflects on his behaviour and stays out of trouble.”
