A hilarious video showing a reporter hitting herself right across the face in an attempt to ward off mosquitos is trending. The video shows Andrea Crothers, a reporter for Australia’s Today Show, standing in front of the camera as she gears up to report on a recent flooding in Brisbane. Before she could begin, a mosquito landed on her face. As a reflex, Andrea attempts to crush the bug but ends up slapping herself. This moment was caught on camera and later replayed at the studio as her colleagues took light-hearted digs at the situation.
Before playing this clip, one of her colleagues from the studio says, “A little funny thing happened today, Andrea Crothers, who is one of our great reporters on the show, has been covering these flood waters in Brisbane, a terrific job. But it’s very muggy up there, wet weather, and along with all those conditions come the awful bugs as a sound of mosquitos was playing. So here she was, confronted on air during a live report. There are the dangers of reporters putting themselves in to bring you the stories at home.”

To make the clip look even funnier, the studio replayed it in slow motion as well. Commenting on it, an Instagram user wrote, “This is the greatest thing I have ever seen and I have watched this many times.” Another commented, “Omg I can’t stop laughing. I’m with all of you guys, truly the slower the funnier poor Andrea.” A user remarked, “I’m still laughing. Watched this about five times. Gold.”
A day later Andrea upgraded her reporting gear to tackle the mosquito attacks as she wore a net face veil. While sharing a video in her new outfit, she wrote, “HR said I could wear this as long as I didn’t file for worker’s comp for punching myself in the face.”

This is not the only news broadcast that was interrupted by bugs. Back in December 2022, Canadian news anchor Farah Nasser swallowed a fly while she was in the studio reporting on floods in Pakistan.
Sharing because we all need a laugh these days. Turns out it's not just @fordnation, I swallowed a fly on air today. (Very much a first world problem given the story I'm introducing). pic.twitter.com/Qx5YyAeQed

However, Farah continued the broadcast after stopping for just a second. She shared this moment on X and wrote, “Sharing because we all need a laugh these days. Turns out it’s not just Dough Ford, I swallowed a fly on air today. (Very much a first world problem given the story I’m introducing).” She was referring to the moment Canadian politician Dough Ford swallowed a bee that flew into his mouth during a live broadcast in August 2022.
