Banana is an all-purpose fruit that seamlessly fits into any culinary creation. Whether it’s adding moistness to a delectable cake, lending a creaminess to a refreshing smoothie bowl, or serving as the crowning glory on a fluffy pancake stack, bananas seem to effortlessly elevate every dish. However, this culinary ‘ubiquity’ faced a surprising challenge when a Surat food truck decided to push the boundaries by stuffing chocolate and jam inside the banana to create a novel dessert. Yet, Desi foodies weren’t quite sold on the idea, finding it lacking in ‘a-peel’ due to its indulgent ‘fat’. It seemed like too much sweetness and fat for many to handle!
Shared on Instagram, a video by content creator @crazysha01 showcased this novel dessert creation process. From meticulously cutting and peeling the banana to using a machine to drill a cavity inside, and then carefully filling it with a mixture of chocolate or jam, the process was a spectacle in itself. In essence, it was akin to envisioning a choco lava cake, but with a banana twist! And this culinary innovation was the brainchild of a food truck named Cafe Six Eleven, retailing at the price of Rs. 60.

As expected, the comments section was soon ablaze with skepticism and humour. Some scoffed at the pricing, pointing out the affordability of bananas and the presumed cheapness of the chocolate used. Others simply couldn’t wrap their heads around the unusual flavour combination.

“Brother, you could get a whole dozen bananas for 60 rupees,” quipped one user. “Cheese left the chat,” joked another, while a third offered a lighthearted apology on behalf of all Suratis.
Interestingly, Surat seems to have a knack for stirring up culinary surprises. Prior to this, the internet was abuzz with another fruit-infused marvel originating from the same city: the Fruits Pizza. Crafted by a local vendor, this healthy twist on the traditional pizza featured a watermelon base topped with an array of fruits such as grapes, pineapple, kiwi, and dragon fruit, all sprinkled with chaat masala and drizzled generously with honey and cream.

It appears that perhaps tired of the usual vegetable fare, fruits are now stepping into the limelight to either tantalise or perplex Desis’ taste buds.
