As the summer heat rolls in, the craving for a chilled, refreshing drink becomes almost irresistible. Whether it’s freshly squeezed fruit juices or convenient packaged options, we all seek that icy coolness from top to bottom. But for one Redditor, a simple desire for a glass of Tropicana juice turned into an unexpected ordeal. Why? Because the drink was tainted with mould!
The shocking discovery was shared on the ‘India’ subreddit by user @ordinarycymatics, who posted images of the white, solid mould found in their Tropicana orange juice packet. “I found mould in my Tropicana Juice. Make sure you use transparent food containers to see if anything builds up!” they cautioned. While the expiration date on the packet indicated April 11, 2024, the OP admitted that they may have unintentionally left the opened packet in the fridge for too long, allowing bacteria to thrive and mould to develop.

“I’m fully aware that packaged foods of all sorts are a chemical packed mess. I realised this was also my fault because I kept it in the refrigerator ~7 days after opening it,” they acknowledged.
For those unfamiliar, mould is a type of fungus that can spoil food, altering its taste and texture, often forming white or green fuzzy spots.

As the Redditor shared their unfortunate encounter with molded juice to raise awareness, a wave of advice flooded in. “If you’re looking purely for nutrients from oranges, then have Vitamin-C and related supplements. Further, I would still say drinking only from a juice box regularly is not good for you because of sugar intake,” cautioned one commenter. Another bluntly stated, “Stop drinking this diabetic fluid and make your own juice from real fruits…will be my opinion on this simply.”
However, amidst the sea of suggestions, the OP reached a breaking point, exclaiming, “About 90% of comments have asked me to stop drinking processed foods. I am not a child. I know the risks and can manage myself. For any future comments that reiterate what every other comment says, please comment down something that contributes to the topic at hand instead. It’s already determined that the cause of this was due to me leaving the pack opened for about a week in the fridge.”

Thus, absolving Tropicana of blame, the post served as a gentle reminder for all to exercise caution with perishable goods.
