Never-Seen-Before Picture Of Sundar Pichai, Sharmistha Dubey From IIT Kharagpur Convocation

With the advent of social media, there is no dearth of new images and videos that take the internet by storm. Some interesting pictures keep emerging regularly, leaving viewers stunned, and this time an old image of Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai from his graduation days is going viral. Recently, an X user named Ananya Lohani shared a picture on the micro-blogging site from his father’s convocation day at IIT Kharagpur in 1993. The picture showed his father with Sundar Pichai, who was in the same batch at IIT Kharagpur.

Hold on to your horses. The viral post circulating online not only featured the Google and Alphabet CEO but also featured Sundar Pichai’s only female classmate, Sharmistha Dubey. She was the former CEO of an American IT company, Match Group, which owns several dating apps such as OkCupid and Tinder.

Sharing the picture on the microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter) on May 6, Ananya Lohani wrote, “My dad just shared this picture of his IIT KGP convocation (1993) with him, Sundar Pichai, and Sharmistha Dubey in the same frame. This is absolutely insane…”

Since being shared, the post has gone crazy viral, leaving viewers in awe. Social media users filled the comment section with an influx of comments, with many calling it a brag-worthy IITian post. Others were curious to know what the user’s father was doing, his profession, and whether they were in touch with each other or not. Till now, the share has amassed more than 595,000 views, and the numbers are still increasing.

Sundar Pichai and Sharmistha Dubey were part of IIT Kharagpur’s BTech in Metallurgy batch in 1993. While Pichai’s meteoric success in Silicon Valley serves as an example for Indian immigrants, Sharmistha Dubey is hailed for revolutionising the online dating game. She is the creative force behind the ‘Likes You’ feature for Tinder, which was unveiled in 2017.
