‘Kill Me, Help Me’: Off-duty Cop’s Last Words Caught On Camera Before Fatal Shooting
He is heard screaming phrases like “kill me” and “help me” as he tries to break the door open in the recorded footage.

An off-duty cop was shot dead while trying to break into a neighbour’s house. The event took place in the morning on October 4, 2024, in Douglas County, Georgia. At approximately 5:08 AM, Aubree Horton, 32, was captured on a doorbell camera running half-naked and barefoot at the neighbour’s residence, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.

He is heard screaming, “kill me” and “help me”, while attempting to break the door open in the recorded footage. He then sits on the steps of the home with his hands on his face, panting profusely.

The footage was shared by Daily Mail on Instagram. Take a look:

The homeowner’s wife, who had left for work a few minutes before, received various notifications from her Ring doorbell camera, which alerted her to call the police.

Inside their home, the husband woke up to the noise coming from outside. The homeowner initially tried to converse with Horton through the door of the residence. But Horton opened the door just enough to force himself in and subsequently attack the homeowner.

In an attempt to protect himself, the homeowner shot Horton dead using a firearm.

Police later confirmed that Horton was dead on the spot.

Speaking to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the sheriff’s office stated that the two people didn’t have any acquaintance, and there was no previous domestic violence incident in relation to Horton. The incident has raised significant concerns regarding mental health and community safety.

The results of the toxicology report are awaited and may take some months.

According to AJC, Horton has been with the Atlanta Police Department since November 2015 and was honoured recently as ‘Investigator of the Year’ in high-profile investigations. Horton earned the recognition in the case of the missing 21-year-old Leondre Flynt whose body was found in July.

The locals who live in the St. Andrews Country Club remain in shock over the event, a strange occurrence in that quiet neighbourhood, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.

“I’ve lived here for five years, and I can promise you, this ain’t what you see out here,” a resident told the outlet.

Authorities are collaborating with the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office to review every detail of the event.
